Hey girl, (and stray guy who found himself here but is hella welcome anyway).
It’s Friday night. And if you’re reading this I shall assume you’re either broke, a homebody like I am, or at worst both. I say this all the time though people never believe me, I spend 90% of my Friday nights at home. 75% of those nights in solitude when there are no friends over.
So let’s talk about them, those Friday nights that look a lot like sipping a cup of woolies cranberry, apple and cinnamon tea, on a warm African night (because you’re a tea fiend) as you spray that one persistent fly (or mosquito) with doom. Hoping it dies quickly so you can get tucked into the night’s activities.
I spend a lot of my Friday nights bonding with like minds on the interwebs (and generally bonding with myself). Contrary to popular belief sometimes I actually plan to do nothing. It’s necessary and extremely therapeutic.
Sometimes on Fridays all you want to do is nothing. To spend a night indoors watching old movies, listening to obscure music and comparing the length of your natural hair with your friends on the group chat as you laugh at hilarious tweets. That sounds like an ideal night to me.
That, sometimes, is what constitutes as fun. I wouldn’t call it anti-social. Just that we’re all being social from the comfort of our homes and we like it like that.
Free to watch what we want as we laugh at shared memes and speculate about our country’s issues. Like why our degrees only qualify us to study for other degrees abroad and not Master’s programs. (yes of course we talk about serious issues too) Then get right back to talking about Jason Mamoa and Lisa Bonet. I love our anti-social clubs. I only like to leave the house when necessary.
Friday nights are also for good laughs and a good dance. Every once in a while it’s quite alright to let loose and enjoy your youth. I do believe everyone must have a story to tell. So go to that party, (stay responsible), go for that dinner, go watch that movie, go to that gallery and live a little, (or a lot).
