MY pet peeves are, flies, people dragging their feet, unpunctual people, liars and public service providers lunch hours!!!!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. Yesterday i so happened to go to a public office to seek a service and not only did the civil servant shout that he was on his lunch break he shut the door in our faces and locked it and proceed to eat his pie and drink his Fanta.
If I wasn’t hungry and tired from climbing a torturous number of stairs i probably would have thrown a fit. This got me thinking. Why is it that the average civil servant in Zambia not only takes the longest lunch hours known to man and also why do they not bother to be civil? It is in their job title after all.
And why must you refer me to a million and one offices to look for Mr-so-and-so when all i need is that little stamp on your desk? Wild goose chases are not fun at all.
Why is it that most Zambian service providers will only be civil to a white man or a foreigner but show no care for their fellow citizens. Is it because of frustrations with government working conditions? Because that really has nothing to do with me so why give me attitude? Its not like you’re doing me a favour after all I AM paying for the service i want you to render.
Its a sad sad state that our country is in. Its bad enough that the services in some institutions are sub standard but to have to deal with your frustrations as well. NO THANK YOU!! I’m not a here to offer therapeutic services. I am not that punching bag you should use to vent.
Smile maybe, force it if you must after the first hundred tries it should come natural. (Trust me it helps). Is a polite civil servant who actually does their job too much to ask?
